disgo Xkey employs a security application that is designed to prevent the use of spyware such as keystroke recorders and text grabbers.
This software also blocks the use of some applications, such as Messenger Plus! There is currently no work-around for this problem aside from ejecting Xkey.
The program error: hidserv.exe may happen if you plug in your Xkey to a computer running Windows 2000 SP2 or earlier, and if you log in to a Guest account.
Xkey is not supported on Windows 2000 SP2 or earlier.
If you right-click the Xkey_Launcher icon and select Run as from the menu, a window is displayed where you can select to run the application using the current user, or switching to another user. If you select Current user and the Protect my computer option has been selected, Xkey will not launch.
You can launch Xkey using the Run as option only if the Protect my computer option is not selected.
If you want to leave the Protect my computer option enabled, select the “The following user:” radio button and specify the current user account.
Occasionally Windows fails to run the autorun script on the CD portion of Xkey.
If this happens, you can remove and reinsert your Xkey, double click the Xkey Launcher icon in Windows Explorer, or select the Run as option in the Xkey_Launcher application menu to launch your Xkey.
This may happen if you are using a certificate from your Xkey when you eject Xkey, and the application using the certificate does not recognize that it is no longer available.
To correct this, shut down any application that was using a certificate from Xkey, then remove and reinsert Xkey.
Occasionally, when working with an account that does not have Administrator privileges, Xkey may not respond quickly enough to requests for the configuration data, and the system times out.
This can be resolved by removing and reinserting your disgo Xkey.
This can happen for 2 reasons:
1.Is this the first time you plugged in Xkey to this specific computer?
The Microsoft Windows new hardware setup system sometimes doesn’t launch the autorun code on a removable drive.
If this happens, the Xkey Launcher partition of your Xkey can be seen in Windows, but you won’t see the password prompt and the Xkey Drive partition isn’t available. You can solve this by restarting the computer and reinserting your Xkey, or by manually launching the Xkey software.
The Xkey software launcher is located on the Xkey Launcher drive, and is labeled Xkey_Launcher.exe.
2.Have you used your Xkey on this specific computer before?
If you used your Xkey on this computer, but have since added a new network drive mapping, Windows may not be allowing access to your Xkey. Windows stores the last drive mapping of removable drives, but also allows you to add a network drive mapped to the same drive letter originally assigned to the removable drive.
When this happens, Windows allocates the same drive letter for both the removable drive and the network drive when your Xkey is inserted. To check, select Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management to display the local disks and their drive letter mappings.
If you can see the Xkey Launcher and Xkey disk partitions, but the Xkey Launcher has the same mapping as a network drive, either change the network drive letter or the Xkey Launcher drive letter to allow access to your Xkey.
To change the network drive letter:
- Disconnect the mapped network drive and map it to an available drive letter not being used by your Xkey
To change the Xkey Launcher drive letter:
- Right Click My Computer.
Select Manage.
Click on Disk Management and maximise the window.
Look to the right hand side of the window.
Right click on Xkey Launcher.
Select Change Drive Letter and Paths..
Click on Change
Select a different letter, ensuring that it is not already a letter already in use.
Click on OK.
Click on Yes at the warning message.
The drive letter will change.
After changing the drive letter, remove and reinsert your Xkey.
It is not possible to uninstall the XKey functionality as this is preconfigured at manufacture.
Regrettably the disgo Xkey will not be supported on the Windows Vista platform. This is because this product was developed before this operating system was released. This unit will be supported on Windows 2000 SP2 and above and on Windows XP.
Unfortunately as this product model is now EOL (End of Life), the developers will not be releasing any further updates.
On MAC computers the U3 Launchpad will not function and the device acts as a regular USB Flash Drive.
To resolve the problem:
Plug the disgo into a computer where the U3 Launchpad is compatible*
Click on the U3 icon to initiate the Launchpad;
Click on Disable Security;
Enter the password and click Ok;
Plug the disgo into MAC OSX computer and you will be able to access your files.
*The U3 smart drive Launchpad only runs on computers running Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 and later, Windows XP (all editions and service packs), Windows Server 2003 and Windows Vista (with an update).
USafe is the security application built into the U3 Launchpad. This is only available on U3 Smart Drives and is compatible with Windows 2000(SP4), Windows XP and Windows Vista (with an update).
It is not available for download separately.
It is not possible to convert ordinary files into .U3P files. It is only U3 Smart Applications that are .U3P and can be installed to the U3 Launchpad.
Files can be copied to the storage area in the normal manner. The storage area can be accessed by clicking on the Explore U3 Drive button on the Launchpad.
